THE “MIRACULOUS” DESCENTS OF THE HOLY
EUCHARIST IN NAJU
A SUMMARY OF THE FACTS
So far in Naju, Korea,
there have been “miraculous” descents of the Holy Eucharist fourteen
times:
1-2.
On November 24, 1994 in Naju,
during the visit by Archbishop Giovanni Bulaitis, the Apostolic Nuncio to
Korea at that time, a large Sacred Host, already broken into two parts,
came down to Julia Kim’s hands (between her fingers). Shortly after
Archbishop Bulaitis and Father Raymond Spies, Julia’s spiritual director,
divided the Sacred Host and gave Communion to about 70 people in the
Chapel, a small Sacred Host came down and landed on Julia’s tongue while
Archbishop Bulaitis and Father Spies were holding Julia’s hands and
praying with her. The small Sacred Host and a portion of the large Sacred
Host have been preserved in a small monstrance. In her message to Julia
just before the large Sacred host came down, the Blessed Mother said that
the Lord was having St. Michael the Archangel bring to Naju the (large)
Eucharist from a priest in sin. Contrary to what is mentioned in the
Kwangju Archbishop’s Declaration issued on January 1, 1998, the
valid Eucharistic consecration of the large Host that was brought to Naju
was never denied regardless of the priest’s sinfulness. Archbishop
Bulaitis also mentioned later that a small corner of the large Sacred Host
was missing and that this meant that the celebrating priest had already
finished the consecration and broke a small part of the Eucharist and put
it in the chalice before the angel brought the Eucharist to Naju.
3.
On July 1, 1995, at about 3:45
a.m., while the pilgrims were praying in the Chapel in commemoration of
the 10th anniversary of Our Lady’s first weeping tears in Naju,
seven Sacred Hosts came down from the direction of the Crucifix and
forcefully landed on the altar before the Blessed Mother’s statue. Next
day, two priests and five lay people (including Julia) consumed the Sacred
Hosts in obedience to the local Archbishop’s instruction. The Sacred Host
received by Julia changed into visible flesh and blood on her tongue,
which was a confirmation that the Sacred Hosts that had come down from
above were not unconsecrated hosts but true Eucharist. Later, in 2003,
the blood sample taken from this Eucharistic miracle and the blood samples
taken from the little rocks on the Blessed Mother’s Mountain stained with
the Precious Blood that came down from above were subjected to DNA tests
at the medical center of Seoul National University. The test results
formally announced on September 8, 2003 by Dr. Jung-Bin Lee, the head of
the Department of Forensic Medicine at the same university, confirmed that
all the blood samples tested belonged to one same male human with blood
type: AB.
4.
On July 1, 1996, during an
overnight prayer meeting in the Chapel in Naju, Julia saw Jesus on the
Crucifix becoming alive and bleeding from His seven Wounds and the Blood
turning into seven white Sacred Hosts. Then, the Sacred Hosts descended
into Julia’s mouth. She consumed the Sacred Hosts.
5.
On June 12, 1997, while Bishop
Paul Chang-Yeol Kim of the Cheju Diocese in Korea was visiting the Chapel
and was praying with a priest, Julia, and others, a large Sacred Host
suddenly came down and landed on the altar before the Blessed Mother’s
statue. After the Bishop blessed the pilgrims holding the Sacred Host in
his hands, the Sacred Host was exposed in the Naju parish church for a
while. Later on the same day, the Sacred Host was brought to the Kwangju
Archdiocesan building in Kwangju by a priest. Since then, the Kwangju
Archdiocese has denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of this Sacred
Host.
6.
On July 13, 1997, while Monsignor
Giovanni D’Ercole from the Vatican was praying before the Blessed Mother’s
statue in the Chapel in Naju, a large Sacred Host suddenly came down from
the direction of the Crucifix. The Monsignor picked up the Sacred Host,
prayed for a while, and then consumed It.
7.
On August 27, 1997, during the
visit by Fr. Raymond Spies, a large Sacred Host came down again in the
Chapel while Fr. Spies and others were praying the rosary before the
Blessed Mother’s statue. This descent of the Sacred Host was recorded by
the video camera, which had been installed on the sidewall of the Chapel
and turned on during every important occasion. This Sacred Host was also
brought to the Kwangju Archdiocesan building by a priest at the
instruction of the Archbishop, but, afterwards, the Archdiocese has denies
any knowledge of its location.
8.
On November 24, 2001, early in
the morning when Julia and several volunteer helpers were doing the
Stations of the Cross on the Blessed Mother’s Mountain in Naju, a Sacred
Host came down and penetrated Julia’s flu mask and entered her mouth.
Photographs of the Eucharist in her mouth were taken.
9.
On January 1, 2002, when Julia
and others were praying on the Blessed Mother’s Mountain in Naju, a Sacred
Host came down again and entered Julia’s mouth.
10.
On January 6, 2002, the Feast of
Epiphany, when Julia and the volunteer helpers were doing the Liturgy of
the Word in her home, because they were not allowed to go to Mass in the
parish church, a Sacred Host came down.
11.
On April 16, 2005, during the
Mass celebrated by Fr. Pete Marcial from Guam in the vinyl chapel on the
Blessed Mother’s Mountain, a Sacred Host came down to the floor near the
altar. On May 6, 2005, this Eucharist bled in a ciborium in the room near
the Chapel in Naju where Fr. Marcial was staying. This Eucharist is being
preserved in a monstrance.
12.
On October 24, 2006, during the
Mass celebrated by Fr. Kwang-Suk Suh of the Kwangju Archdiocese, a Sacred
Host came down.
13.
On June 11, 2007, the day before
Julia was to leave for Indonesia, a Sacred Host came down in her room, an
attic in her house where Julia prays and sleeps.
14.
On June 10, 2008, a Sister found
that, in the monstrance containing the Eucharist that had come down on
April 16, 2005 and bled on May 6, 2005, there was another Sacred Host
behind the Sacred Host that had bled.
A SEARCH FOR GOD’S WILL IN
THESE “MIRACLES”
All true miracles contain
God’s Will or Intention. A reported miracle cannot be a genuine one and
would only be a vain strange phenomenon, if it is devoid of the divine
will. God’s purpose or intention in regard to humans can only be their
salvation. Therefore, all true miracles must have God’s purpose to aid
and accomplish our salvation. Miracles can help our salvation by
awakening and alerting us to the saving truths and commandments from God
and by prodding and helping us toward repentance, reformation of our
lives, more prayers, and more acts of charity.
The Eucharistic miracles
involving the changes of the Eucharistic species of bread and wine into
the species of flesh and blood shock and awaken us to the normally hidden
reality of Our Lord’s Real Presence in the Eucharist and, thus, strengthen
our faith in the Church teachings on the Eucharist and deepen our love for
and devotion to Our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament.
The tears, tears of blood,
and fragrant oil from the Blessed Mother’s statue help us open our eyes to
the externally hidden reality of Our Lady’s motherly love for all humans.
As our true mother, she cannot help feeling immense concern and sorrows as
we persistently remain ignorant of and indifferent to God’s teachings and
commandments and negligent of carrying out our missions that God gives to
each member of the Church for the evangelization and salvation of the
whole human race. By externally revealing her sorrows and love for us by
means of the special miraculous signs, she wishes to prod us to repent and
help us come closer to her Divine Son and, thus, lead us on the true way
to salvation, which means our sanctification and receiving the eternal
life in God’s Kingdom.
Then, what is God’s
purpose or intention in sending down the Holy Eucharist without clearly
mentioning the Consecration by priests? What does God expect to achieve
by doing so?
Glimpses into the Divine purpose
revealed in the Messages in Naju
(i) November 24, 1994
The Blessed Mother’s
message just before the large Sacred Host was brought to Julia by St.
Michael the Archangel:
“The
Holy Eucharist is the center of all the supernatural events, but is being
trampled by so many children through sacrilege, insult, and humiliation.
Therefore, my messages of love must be spread all over the world more
vigorously so that the time of the Lord, Who is present in the Eucharist,
and of the New Pentecost may be advanced . . . My beloved daughter! A
certain priest living in sin was about to consume the Eucharist, but the
Lord was not able to live in him and is having St. Michael the Archangel
bring that Eucharist to my beloved Papal Representative and your spiritual
director through you. So, stretch out your hands.”
In the above message, the
Blessed Mother seems to be saying that the
Eucharist is brought to Naju by the angel to alert us to the widespread
grave sins of sacrilege, insult, and humiliation against the Eucharist,
which is the Lord Himself, even by some priests.
(ii)
July 1, 1995
Our Lord’s message just
before the seven Sacred Hosts came down from the Crucifix in the Chapel:
“My
real, personal and physical Presence in the Mystery of the Eucharist is an
indisputable fact. I have repeatedly shown the Eucharist turning into
visible Blood and Flesh so that all may believe that the Eucharist, which
is a Mystery of the Infinite Love, Humility, Power and Wisdom, is My
Living Presence. If certain priests do not believe in this Personal
Presence of Mine in the Church, they certainly do not qualify as
co-redeemers. When they ignore Me, Who am Christ, true God and true Man,
they publicly deny My Divinity while acknowledging My human nature. That
is because they have lost the ability to discern between good and evil and
between what is authentic and what is not. . . Today I will give you a
Sign of Love, while all of you are looking, with the same love that I
had when I gave you the Seven Sacraments and gave up all of Myself. Help
Me, all of you, in saving this world, which is becoming sicker and sicker,
by uniting with one another and practicing love.”
In this message, Our Lord
refers to the miraculous descent of the Eucharist as “a Sign of Love
for all” after clearly and emphatically explaining what the
Eucharist really is. He is especially lamenting over the lack of faith in
His Real Presence in the Eucharist among priests. Thus, we may understand
the purpose of the miraculous descents of
the Eucharist as the re-emphasis on the Eucharist as a Sacrament of Love
and also on the need for stronger faith in the Eucharist among priests.
(iii) July 2, 1995
One day after the seven
Sacred Hosts came down in the Chapel in Naju, two priests and five lay
people including Julia consumed them in obedience to the instruction by
the local Archbishop. The Sacred Host received by Julia turned into
visible Flesh and Blood on her tongue as a sign that the seven Sacred
Hosts that had come down on the previous day were not unconsecrated hosts
but true Eucharist. Immediately after the miraculous changes in the
Eucharistic species in Julia’s mouth, she saw a vision. Her own words: “I
saw a place crowded with numerous people. The Holy Father and many clergy
were celebrating Mass. Many priests were offering the Mass while they
were in sin. Many of the religious and the majority of lay people were
receiving Communion while they were in sin, without realizing their
sinfulness. They were eating up the Eucharist without any hesitation.
The Blessed Mother was suffering so much pain in her Heart and spoke”:
“.
. . My beloved priests! My priests whom I love so dearly that I can
put them in my eyes without feeling any pain! You were given the power to
transubstantiate bread and wine into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of
the Lord in the Church. You were also given the power to forgive sins.
Therefore, make haste to teach the Mystery of the Eucharist to all so that
they may make sincere Confessions and receive the Eucharist with clean
hearts. Help them follow the Lord. . .
”
We see that there was a
close association between the Eucharistic miracles on July 1 and 2, 1995
and the Blessed Mother’s anxious wish that
the priests teach the truths about the Eucharist to all people.

June 30/July 1, 1996
Julia: “At about 3
a.m., I saw the Precious Blood dripping from the seven Wounds of Jesus:
the Head, the Heart, both Hands, both Feet and the Side. At the same
time, light was radiating from the wounds. Then, Jesus’ Blood turned
white, solidified, and began moving around together with the light. The
light was gradually shining upon people in the Chapel and, then, as
streams of thick fog spread out, was shining through the windows upon
those who were outside the Chapel. After everyone received the light,
there was a loud voice of Jesus, filled with dignity: ‘Receive My
Light!’. At that moment, I saw that the Sacred Hosts enwrapped in the
light were coming down, and I tried to receive them. Suddenly, a very
powerful light came down from the Crucifix, and I felt extreme pains on my
head, heart, both hands, both feet and side as if the light was
penetrating them and as if many needles were going through them. Because
of the pains, I screamed loudly and fell down. While my mouth was open
because of the screaming, I felt my mouth becoming full of something.
Those who were near me shouted, “It is the Holy Eucharist” and gathered
around me. The sad expression of the Blessed Mother on her statue changed
into a joyful and smiling one. I heard the Blessed Mother’s loving, kind
and beautiful voice from her statue”:
“.
. . My beloved priests and children! Today is the 11th
anniversary of the beginning of my calling you with tears and also the
first anniversary of the amazing Eucharistic miracle that the Lord, Who
will save you, personally sent down (upon you) the amazing miracle of the
Eucharist with His Precious Blood so that it may become a starting engine
for revitalizing your hearts.”
In this message, the
Blessed Mother is referring to the change of the Precious Blood from the
Seven Wounds of Our Lord into seven Sacred Hosts and their descent in the
Chapel on July 1, 1995 and the miraculous change of one of them, received
by Julia, into visible Flesh and Blood in her mouth. According to this
message, the purpose of the miracles in
Naju involving the descent of the Eucharist and the change of the external
appearance of the Eucharist into those of Flesh and Blood was to
revitalize our hearts (toward the truths of the Eucharist).
(v)
June 12, 1997
While Bishop Paul Chang-Yeol
Kim of the Cheju Diocese in Korea was visiting the Chapel in Naju, a large
Sacred Host came down from the direction of the Crucifix very soon after
Bishop Kim said, “If the Eucharist comes down again, It must be
preserved.” The Bishop was lamenting over the fact that the seven
Sacred Hosts that had come down on July 1, 1995 had been consumed and not
preserved. In her message after the large Sacred Host came down, the
Blessed Mother gave a message through Julia:
“. . . Beloved Bishop! My dear son whom I can
put in my eyes without feeling any pain! Make haste to make known to
everyone the Mystery of the Eucharist, in which the Lord is truly present,
and the burning love of my Immaculate Heart and, thus, help the little
soul whom I have chosen. . . My Heart is hurting so much that I make a
request to the Bishop who came to me today. Help prepare a tabernacle
beside me and let Mass be celebrated. Consult with the Bishop (of the
local diocese) and the Pastor so that Masses may be celebrated (in the
Chapel). Quench my thirst by complying with my earnest and anxious
request. That way, prepare wholesome opportunities to present the joy of
love and repentance to those souls who have become so infected with sins
that they have even lost their sense of direction and are wandering about.”
In connection with the
miraculous descent of the Eucharist during Bishop Paul Kim’s visit,
the Blessed Mother is asking the Bishop to make
the Mystery of the Eucharist known to everyone and to help install a
tabernacle and celebrate Mass in her Chapel, which was a request of hers
repeatedly made before.
(vi)
August 27, 1997
After the descent of the
Eucharist during Fr. Raymond Spies’ visit to the Chapel in Naju, the
Blessed Mother gave a message through Julia:
“.
. . My Son Jesus, Who is divine, deserves all the power, honor, glory and
worship, comes to you in person in the form of bread, hiding all of His
Power, Dignity, Divinity and Humanity in order to save the children who
have become lost and are wandering. However, (some people who) have seen
so many Signs of Love until now think that the Holy Eucharist, which is
the Substance of Jesus, Who is alive, is breathing, and wants to be with
you, is just a host, and they judge. . . . Ah! I am sad. The children
who understand the Mystery of the Holy Eucharist, truly accept it, and
make the Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist known is extremely few. . .
Make haste to worship and pray to the Holy Eucharist, which is the Bread
of Life, with a most sublime heart, and, thus, do reparations for the
insults that my Son Jesus, Who is truly present in the Holy Eucharist, has
received and give consolation to Him.”
It seems that, with the
miracle of the Eucharist descending in Naju combined with her messages,
the Blessed Mother is powerfully reminding us of the true reality of the
Eucharist and anxiously wants to draw our attention to Our Lord’s living
Presence in the Eucharist.

November 24, 2001
In the cold morning of
early winter, while Julia was doing the Stations of the Cross together
with several volunteer helpers on the Blessed Mother’s Mountain in Naju,
she saw the Blood gushing out of the Seven Wounds of Jesus on the Cross
and, then, the streams of the Blood converging into one and turning into a
Sacred Host, which then descended into her mouth. At that moment, she
heard the loving and kind voice of Jesus: “Now,
my beloved little soul! Receive and consume this. It is the Blood of My
Covenant which I shed to wash away the sins of the children in the world,
and is My Flesh to nourish souls. Become completely dissolved in Me so
that you may become one with Me; become one with My Heart.”
Julia and her volunteer
helpers were not allowed to attend the Mass in the parish church in Naju.
Therefore, it seems that Our Lord came to Julia in person so that she may
receive Communion and unite with Him. The same miracle was repeated on
January 1, 2002 (on the same mountain) and January 6, 2002 (at her home).
(viii)
April 16, 2005
While Fr. Pete Marcial
from Guam was celebrating Mass in the vinyl chapel on the Blessed Mother’s
Mountain, a Sacred Host came down on the floor near the altar. The same
Sacred Host later (on May 6, 2005) bled in a ciborium in the room in Naju
where Fr. Pete Marcial was staying. On May 6, 2005, shortly before the
miracle of the bleeding from the Sacred Host occurred, Our Lord gave a
message through Julia: “God the Father
sent Me, His only Son, to this world for the conversion and salvation of
all the children in the world who are in sin. Have I not totally laid
Myself down to save all of the children in the world even by becoming
their Food? My beloved little soul! In response to your wishes that
blossom as the flowers of consolation at every moment for the purpose of
repairing the torn Hearts of Me and My Mother, I came down in person as
the Eucharist to share love with My children. However, because the
Eucharist, which is My Substance, is being neglected with the theories and
reasoning infected with errors and heresies, I will show today that the
Eucharist that came down on April 16, when the children who had been
specially called were gathered, was not just a host. This will truly be
the proof that I and My Mother love you so much and the sign of love for
all the children who are trying to come to Me through My Mother and with
unchanging confidence in you. Therefore, regardless of where and when you
may be doing anything, say “Yes” (to Me) so that you may live with Me
through My Mother in Heaven.”
In this message, Our Lord
says that He came down as the Eucharist to respond to Julia’s ardent
wishes to console the torn Hearts of the Lord and the Blessed Mother and
also to share love with His children. He also says that the miracle of
bleeding from the same Sacred Host on May 6, 2005 was to challenge those
who think and say that the Eucharist that had come down on April 16, 2005
must have been just an unconsecrated host.
A probable reason
for the miraculous descents of the Eucharist
All true miracles have the
divine purpose of confirming the supernatural origin of the truths or
messages revealed by the Lord or through His angelic or human agents. All
the miracles in Naju must also have such purposes—to convince us of God’s
Love for us and Will to save us; to awaken us to the urgent need to repent
our sins and reform our lives; to strengthen our faith in and love for the
Eucharist; to open our eyes to the true realities of the Blessed Mother’s
love for us and power to help us; to encourage us to respect and love
others including the unborn as the children of God and the citizens of His
Kingdom, and so on, which are the contents of the messages in Naju. These
miracles are like the seal that a king attaches to his written orders
before he sends them to his local subjects. If the recipients of the
king’s orders ignore and despise this royal seal and the contents of the
orders, they will be guilty of ignoring, despising, and disobeying the
king himself and will be punished accordingly.
Then, the most powerful
and effective sign or seal that the king could attach to his orders or
messages may be that he himself goes to the recipients of his orders and
confirm the authenticity and importance of the orders. If the king
himself presents himself to his local subjects, this will greatly impress
and encourage them to wholeheartedly respect and carry out the king’s
orders. The fact that Our Lord Himself repeatedly came to Naju in person
as the Eucharist may be the greatest and most powerful sign that proves
that it is He Himself Who has been doing all the wonderful works there.
It would be correct to say that the miracles of different kinds—tears and
tears of blood, fragrance of roses, fragrant oil, almost continuous
mystical sufferings and the Stigmata, countless spiritual conversions and
physical healings, changes of the Eucharistic species into visible Flesh
and Blood, descents of the Eucharist from above, descents of the Precious
Blood and thousands of little stones and on other places in Naju,
miraculous photographs, and so on—have been poured down upon Naju for the
past 23 years for the benefit of the whole human race. The enormous
number and intensity of these miraculous signs are powerful signs that God
is doing something extremely important and good, totally beyond our
imagination and expectation, for the repentance and evangelization of the
entire world and the thorough revitalization and purification of the whole
Church. To convince us that it is Our Lord Himself Who has been behind
all these, He has been coming down to Naju as the Eucharist. From some
other sources already approved by the Church, we have been informed that
the new age to be realized by the Holy Spirit will be one of genuine
peace, justice, truth, and love ruled by Our Eucharistic Lord in union
with the Blessed Mother, whose Immaculate Heart continues to flame up with
the fire of immense motherly love that can truly change our hearts and
reform the world.
Regarding some
concern about the miraculous descents of the Eucharist:
“Would
the descents of the Eucharist from above not weaken the priests’ authority
regarding the Eucharistic Consecration that Our Lord Himself gave to them?”
The Kwangju Archbishop’s
Declaration issued on January 1, 1998 states as follows:
“The phenomenon alleged
as a miracle of the Eucharist fallen from heaven is contradictory to the
doctrine of the Catholic Church that says that only through the
legitimately ordained priest’s consecration does the sacrament of the
Eucharist begin to exist (cf. Catéchisme de l’Eglise Catholique, 1411; DS.
902).”
This Kwangju
Declaration means that the consecration by the validly-ordained
priests is the absolutely necessary condition for the Eucharist even to
begin to exist and, therefore, even the Lord Himself cannot assume the
appearance of the Eucharist without the priests’ consecration. It is our
belief that Our Lord never intended or said what this Declaration
asserted and that the teachings of the Fourth Lateran Council and the
Council of Trent, pronounced against the errors of the Waldensians and the
Protestant reformists who were advocating the general priesthood, never
meant what is stated in the Kwangju Declaration, either. We
believe that the Church only teaches that the Lord gave the power of
Eucharistic consecration only to the Bishops and priests who are within
the line and authority of the Apostolic succession and, therefore, no
other humans can have this power, meaning that the lay people and the
Protestant clergymen, for example, cannot and should not perform the
Eucharistic consecration. Saying that the priests have the absolutely
exclusive power of the Eucharistic consecration, even excluding Our Lord
Himself, Who is the Highest Priest, seems excessive and erroneous. The
Eucharist is also sometimes called “the Bread of the angels” (St.
Thomas Aquinas), which implies that Our Lord is not a prisoner of the
priests in presenting Himself as the Eucharist. Priests are Christ’s
ministers, not His lords who have the authority that can restrict Him.
In addition, we need to
also recognize the possibility that all of the Eucharist that miraculously
came down in Naju were brought by angels from the Mass or from the church
tabernacles, meaning that they had already been consecrated by priests.
Among the fourteen miraculous descents of the Eucharist in Naju so far,
only the first one, which occurred during the Apostolic Nuncio’s visit to
Naju, was mentioned in the Blessed Mother’s message as having been brought
from a Mass. The fact that this clarification was given to the first such
miracle in Naju may imply that it applies to all the rest of such miracles
there. Regardless, the miraculous descents of the Eucharist do not seem
to have anything to do with weakening of the priestly power regarding the
Holy Eucharist.
Finally, it is never Our
Lord’s intention to alter or improve the existing order of the
Sacraments which He himself established, through miracles or any other
means. He is not replacing the Eucharistic consecration by priests with
the method of miraculous descents of the Eucharist. Miracles are not the
ordinary ways of God’s running His Church but are extraordinary
interventions by Him for some special and specific needs. Miracles or
messages do not dilute and weaken but defend and strengthen the existing
fabric of the Mystical Body of Christ, the Church, and the contents of the
authentic Catholic Faith and Tradition.
